Saturday night I did volunteer work for a wonderful charity that helps victims of domestic violence. It was their annual gala which was held at a nice hotel. Everyone gets dressed up for this formal event. The guests enjoyed a nice dinner with an open bar.
I was helping out at the silent auction table which was by the bar. On the bar table were about 18 bottles of bottled water. I became very interested watching the guests wait their turn in line at the bar to get their drink. One by one each person ordered a mixed drink. Not one person got a bottle of water. I don't know why I am surprised. But I became intrigued watching this. I kept watching to see if someone would take the water. No one did.
I starting wondering if most people like alcohol or if this was an opportunity for them to have an alcoholic drink since they can have water any time or if they felt like they were entitled to a drink since they paid to come to this event.
I had an opportunity to get any drink I wanted and I chose cranberry juice. You see, it did not matter to me if the drink was free, I did not want alcohol. And again as always, I felt different than everyone else.
Water is so important for good health. Our body is about 60 to 70 percent water. Our brain, lungs, and muscles contain a lot of water. Your body regulates body temperature and provides the way for nutrients to travel to all your organs. Water also transports oxygen to your cells, removes waste, and protects your joints and organs.
It is important to drink water to prevent becoming dehydrated. Chronic pains in joints and muscles, lower back pain, headaches and constipation are symptoms of mild dehydration. And of course, thirst is a sign of dehydration. It is important to drink water before you become thirsty.
It is important to drink the purest water available to you. If its possible, get a water filter for your tap water to remove impurities. Bottled water is in polyethylene containers that have a plasticy taste or odor to the water. Get a polycarbonate container. This saves you money and cuts down on the number of cheap plastic bottles entering our landfills. Find a store that provides a pure water system so you can refill your own bottles.
Hopefully everyone at the charity event drank all of their water during the day. Now that I think about it, not one person was overweight. They must be doing something right.
