It looks like the bigger the state, the more supermarkets there are, which makes sense. I wonder if those include health food stores, and what percentage of the supermarkets have health food sections in them.
So what are you to do if you live in an area that does not have a health food store? Talk to the management of a regular grocery store, and see if they can add a health food section in their store. You might be very surprised when you see that they will do that.
I live in Texas where there are health food stores all over, and more and more are popping up. However, right down the street from me is a Kroger store, which they are remodeling, and are adding a great health food section. They now have so many of the items that I regularly purchase from Whole Foods, that naturally I will be shopping there more often since it is so much closer to where I live. Who would have thought that Kroger would be in competition with Whole Foods!
Kroger is a huge chain, and you probably would not think that their corporate management would listen to you. But this idea to expand came from someone. It never hurts to ask. Even if a store cannot add a whole health food section, maybe they can carry select items that you request. It never hurts to ask.
