Announcing January 2010 Winner of Wellness Coaching Contest

posted Sunday, 3 January 2010
David Balentine, January 2010 winner of my Wellness Coaching contest, was selected to win a FREE Wellness Coaching session with me.  The contest was to write in 50 words or less why you should be chosen to win this contest.

As the winner, David won a free 45 minute coaching session with me, and an interview with me featured in this article.

David's entry was:

"I would like a coaching session so that I can learn more about myself and gain insight about my desires and interests and my betterment as a whole, which only Wellness  Coaching can achieve."

I choose David because I think that it is very important that he is willing to learn more about himself and grow.   Many people are not interested in growing.  David is open-minded and is eager to try something different, such as the Wellness Coaching.

David's profile and interview:

Age: 39

Marital status:  Single

Occupation: Business owner, Property maintenance/Refinishing

Favorite Food:  Apples and bananas

Favorite TV show:  I Robot

Favorite color:  Blue

Place of birth:  Dallas, Texas

What makes you happy:  Simplicity

What makes you sad?  To see homeless people, people who have no where to go.

What are you most grateful for in your life?  I'm thankful for so many things.  I actually try to look for things to be thankful for because there are so many toms of thousands who have very little to be thankful for - except for their life.  I know my provisions are met.  I've learned to adept to having faith and my provisions are met.

What is important to you about friendships?  Trust is vital.  Trust is applied to all relationships.  One word summarizes it it - trust.  You have to have and maintain the trust.  Once the trust is broken, the friendship can be damaged.  So trust is on the top of the list.  Concern and regard are elements of a friendship.  If you don't have that, it won't be a strong friendship.  As well as concern, sensitivity is very high on the list.  Being a lifter is important.  Being someone who esteems others, being valuable, lovable, and worthy.  I have the ability to do that for other people.  Ability to understand people is important.  I'm good at understanding how to help people for their betterment.

What are your best qualities?  My abilities to meet and interface with many people.

What are your best accomplishments?  Living a life of value.  Keeping morals and principles intact at all times.

What do you like to do in your free time?  Read books.  I like to read a lot.  Reading is very interesting.  I have an interest in being an artist.

What advise would you give a teenager?  I would tell a teenager not to let the world sway them away from what they want.  In other words, you have to be your own person.  Loving and respecting yourself in vital.  Having a value system in your heart, mind, and your spirit, so that you have a guidepost to go by so that the world does not sway you in another direction.  Don't let others influence you by getting involved in things that you know you should not do, such as drug abuse, smoking, or even skipping class.  Always have a standard of belief that prevents you from doing stupid things.  If they don't have a standard to follow, they are like a leaf in the wind.  Having good quality friends who have good traits is vital.  Friends are someone that you can confide in. Teens are in their formative years.  Having a parent figure to give emotional support is important.

What about your life do you cherish?  My parents, that's vital.  I cherish my friends and freedom.  There are many countries that do not have freedom, but we have it.  We have freedom to go places, to learn, to think, to feel, to do art.

What will you always remember about your family?  The commitment and appreciation, and caring.

What about your life do you regret?  Choices that I made regarding my investments. Also, not utilizing the time that I have been given to the fullest and not reaching particular goals at a certain time.  Not recognizing elders as much as I should because elders are the backbone of who we are.

What goals and aspirations do you have?  I want to continue the betterment of others.  Being there for others, being a support for them.  I would like to get a college degree.  Reaching the top pinnacle of all aspects of life which would consist of excellent health, excellent finances, a thriving business, getting married, and having a very happy family and friends.  You can have a lot of money, but you can have a deep void in your soul if you don't have a deep relationship with God and family.

What are some favorite memories growing up?  I found joy in a rainy day.  My father was in sales and traveled.  I remember waiting for him to come home from work.  It would be raining and I would wait for him.  I would stand and watch the rain, and wait for him to pull up in the driveway and go through the garage.  When I saw him I would hug his neck.  Those are very special memories.

The days that I could appreciate nature were special to me.  I remember sitting on the school steps with a girl and she was holding an umbrella on day when it was raining.  We talked about the rain and  figuring out how we were getting home.  There was a reporter there who took our picture.

I have great memories of my friendship with three boys who lived across the street.  They were my friends, my backbone, we were there for each other.

Are you health conscious?  Yes, to a degree.  I try to eat fruits and vegetables and I try to get daily exercise.  I take vitamins and fish oil.

Do you like to go shopping?  No, it's too tempting to spend to much money.

Do you like to travel and if so, where?  Yes, I like to travel.  I like to go to quiet places like the mountains.  I like to go the the country and enjoy the scenery and think and be a peace.  I like to get away from the rat race.

If money were not an object, what would you like to do?  Eliminate homelessness.

Who would guest be at your fantasy dinner party?  Mother Theresa.  She's noted to be one of the most prominent givers to society.  I would like to know how she did what she did and why; George Washington; all my friends, past and present; the voice of reasoning - explaining why the world is in the chaos it is in; God.  God can see the future and we can't.  He would be someone you can confide in when you have no one else.  It would be an ideal evening, all together with God and friends.

Who do you most admire?  My friends and family; those who are engaged in philanthropic activities; the airline pilot who landed on the Hudson.

Thank you, David, for that great interview!
